Professional Options Strategies for Private Traders - Nick Katiforis

Trading options can give investors an edge allowing them to trade in all markets not just during a bull run. Options work on the principle of leverage – so gains (as well as losses) are magnified.

For this reason the common opinion is that you need to be a professional to trade something as ‘complex’ as options.

Nick Katiforis, author of Professional Options Strategies for Private Traders, says that most publications are full of diagrams, mathematics, and convoluted descriptions of options and this causes the private trader to shy away from this type of trading.

“It is little wonder that most private traders either shy away from options due to a lack of understanding or, worse, trade options inappropriately simply because they have never learnt the correct principles of options trading,” says Katiforis.

This book is designed to help private trader’s trade options using the same principles as the experts. Katiforis looks at:

          • The four principles of professional options trading
          • Bullish and bearish strategies
          • Developing an options trading plan and
          • He shares with the reader the top ten secrets of the professionals.

"Professional Options Strategies for Private Traders is designed as an action manual. It concentrates on the core principles of successful options trading and how best to apply them in a real-life trading environment to make money,” says Katiforis.

Nick Katiforis has a Business Degree from Melbourne University, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia and a Diploma in Technical Analysis from the Australian Technical Analysts Association. Nick is a former professional floor trader at the Sydney Futures Exchange, who has been successfully trading options for over 10 years. He is currently working as a private client adviser with Tricom in Melbourne.

DARYL GUPPY of Guppytraders.com, best selling author and renowned Australian private trader and educator, reviews 'Professional Options Strategies for Private Traders':

“Some books you pick up and you know from the first page that the author really knows what he is talking about. Trading experience quickly shows through when writing books about trading and trading methods.

Katiforis knows the options market and it shows. This is an excellent discussion of options trading strategies for stock index, commodities, interest rates, currencies and other markets using a range of option instruments. He includes strategies and tactics for trading directional and flat markets as well as trending markets.

Each section includes a discussion of the characteristics of the market and the major factors which affect price behaviour. Each of the strategies discussed includes comprehensive notes on risk characteristics, profit potential, the effects of time decay and implied volatility. This is a very practical book.

Katiforis outlines some major principles in options trading used by professional traders but usually unknown to many private traders.

This is an excellent book for traders interested in trading options. For Australian traders this provides the most comprehensive covering of options instruments available."
